An Operating System is a program designed to run other programs on a computer.
A computer's operating system is it's most important program. It is considered the
backbone of a computer, managing both software and hardware resources.
Without a computer operating system, a computer would be useless.
Operating System interacts through:
◘ Command Line Interface (CLI)
Let the user control the PC by typing commands through keyboard.
◘ Graphical User Interface
Contains graphics and icons and is commonly navigated by using a
computer mouse
○ Multi-user
An operating system allows for multiple users to use the same computer at the
same time and different times.
○ Multiprocessing
An operating system capable of supporting and utilizing more than one
computer processor.
○Multitasking
An operating system that is capable of allowing multiple software processes
to run at the same time.
to run at the same time.
○Multi-threading
Operating system that allows different parts of software program
to run concurrently.
to run concurrently.
Mam Shena,we all know that there are many types of Operating System as mentioned above. How can we know the type of Operating System used by the computer?
TumugonBurahinAs your computer starts up, a logo will display, either on the bottom-left or top-left corner that denotes which operating system it is running. On the other hand, you will know the operating system of a computer when you shut it down, like ubuntu for example.
BurahinWhen you say Multiprocessing, Is it possible to have two microprocessor in one computer?
TumugonBurahinMultiprocessing is the use of two or more processors within a single computer, so technically the answer to your question is yes :). An example of computer with this kind of OS is a Supercomputer.
BurahinHi Ma'am Shena! given that there are a lot of Operating Systems available on the web, can you recommend one OS that I can use and explore?
TumugonBurahinWell, if you want to try other operating systems which are less mainstream, you can try Haiku, ArOS, DexOS, Fedora, CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu which are all open source :)
BurahinHello Ma'am Shena, from your own opinion what is the best OS to use?
TumugonBurahinIn my own opinion, any operating system can be at its best as long as it have what you are looking for in an OS, as long as it satisfies you.
Burahinmaam, can i use multiple OS in one Computer ?
TumugonBurahinIts possible to run multiple operating systems on a single computer either by dual booting or by using a Virtual Machine.
Burahinma'am what is they calling a specs? and a videocaed? that can really help your technology run faster and stable?
TumugonBurahinSpecs are the characteristics or features of an object or let's say gadgets. Like for example computer specs, these includes the number of bits of the processor, its speed, whether it is 64, 32 or Pentium, is it INTEL or AMD, the size of RAM, the brand of Motherboard and the likes. Putting the specs into consideration is important mostly if you're going to buy a computer. Videocard has nothing to do with the speed of your computer, it's only responsible for the display. If you're a gamer type of person, its advisable for you to buy a videocard because on board videocard cannot support graphics of some games. If your after the speed, you should consider the speed of processor (e.g. a single-core 2GHz processor is a lot slower than a four-core 2GHz processor) and the size of RAM
